Community Development

In 1990, eight task forces came together to put an end to our area’s decay and desperation. Represented by the very pillars supporting the tower of the University Area Community Development Center Complex, this force created an action plan that an entire community has embraced. Today, this plan has been translated into powerful opportunities, like the Complex itself. The positive thinking and foresight that created the 50,000 square-foot Complex has radiated out to other important community amenities, such as safe, well-lit streets, sidewalks and pedestrian crosswalks, a magnet elementary school, one of the Bay Area’s few career high schools, and a social and health services center for the indigent. Soon our magnificent campus will be home to the Junior Achievement’s Enterprise Village, and progress will then move eastward across 22nd Street as many desirable residential and business environments blossom in its wake.
